Best Warren Buffett Companies To Own For 2014

At theBerkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK-A  ) (NYSE: BRK-B  ) , a shareholder asked Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger which 10 books they've read that have influenced them the most thatweren'twritten by Ben Graham or Phil Fisher. Buffett, being the maverick that he is, had to buck the rules and pointed out just how much Graham'sThe Intelligent Investormeant to him as an investor, saying:

The Intelligent Investorchanged my life.

That's a strong sales pitch. Buffett continued:

Graham's book gave me a bedrock philosophy on investing that made sense... he taught me how to think about a stock and how to think about a stock market.

To be sure, the quality of Graham's classic probably can't be trumpeted enough. But it's also a bit ho-hum for most avid Berkshire shareholders and Buffett fans. Buffett's love of that particular book is very well known.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Bryan Murphy]

It's not the kind of stock you'd want to get married to here, but you might want to date You On Demand Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:YOD) for the next few days. Shares of YOD broke above a major resistance line on Friday, and put some distance between themselves and that line today. It's a clue that the bulls have overpowered the bears, and now that the ball is rolling, it should keep rolling for a while.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

It's fun to be right, but that doesn't mean it's not also frustrating. With that being said, if you happened to get into You On Demand Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:YOD) on Tuesday based on my advice, let's go ahead and take your 30% profit - give or take - by selling YOD at the market.

Even now, though, it's far from clear whether the recent rebound has staying power. Earlier this month, peer Vulcan Materials (NYSE: VMC  ) reported 5% lower shipments of aggregates, although rising prices helped offset the impact, and the company noted double-digit-percentage increases in shipments to hot housing areas including Arizona, California, and Florida. Similarly, Cemex (NYSE: CX  ) posted a substantial loss for its March quarter on with 5% lower revenue, but the Mexican company pointed to strength in the U.S. and Asian markets as offsetting weakness in Mexico, Europe, and Latin America.
