On April 25, Harley-Davidson posted a 33.8% rise in earnings to 99 cents per share in the first quarter of 2013 from 74 cents in the same quarter of prior year, topping the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 97 cents.
Consolidated revenues improved 9.8% to $1.57 billion, exceeding the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.46 billion. The increase in sales and earnings during the quarter was attributable to higher motorcycle shipments and continued improvement in operating efficiencies.
Following the release of the first quarter results, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for 2013 decreased 0.3% to $3.31 per share. Meanwhile, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for 2014 remained constant at $3.87 per share.

By now we all know what Monster Beverage (MNST) gets from its tie-up with Coca-Cola (KO): A hefty chunk of change in exchange for nearly 17% of the company; Coca-Cola’s energy drink business swapped for its own soft-drink lines; and access to Coca-Cola’s international distributors. But what about Coca-Cola?
Associated PressBernstein’s Ali Dibadj explains why Coca-Cola made the deal with Monster Beverage:
We view this development positively as it gives�Coca-Cola exposure to one of the fastest growing segments of the global soft drink industry��hile category growth is clearly slowing in the U.S., the potential remains very strong internationally. Specifically, we see ex-U.S. market growth of more than +12% annually for energy drinks over the next five years, about double of what we project in the U.S. For Monster Beverage, overall growth has slowed in recent years, falling below double-digits in 2013, a far cry from hyper growth in the 2005-2007 period, as market share gains have tapered off. International sales have been a small, but growing, part of the Monster story, although the international mix stagnated last year. We expect the expanded distribution agreements resulting from this partnership to jump-start�Monster Beverage growth in many countries around the world. While�Monster Beverage will still need to negotiate distribution agreements with Coca-Cola’s overseas bottlers throughout its Global System, we think the fact that�Coca-Cola no longer owns any energy drink brands will facilitate that process by removing non-compete challenges. Our country-by-country analysis suggests that�Monster Beverage could nearly double its sales with full access to the global Coca-Cola distribution system.

After hours, shares of�Monster Beverage� (NASDAQ: MNST ) were scaring away investors, falling 3.5% after reporting earnings. The energy-drink maker beat estimates on the bottom line with a per-share profit of $0.55 against the consensus at $0.49, but sales came in short, increasing 10.7%, to $536.1 million. Analysts had expected revenue of $541.9 million. Operating margin shot up 560 basis points in the quarter to 27.8% as the company avoided $8.3 million in distributor termination expenses and saw selling expenses plummet 280 basis points. Monster was once under scrutiny for the safety of its beverages, but the company seems to have put those concerns in the past as CEO Rodney Sacks reminded investors that more than 10 billion Monster drinks have been safely consumed in the last 12 years. With that storm now behind it, the stock looks like a much safer investment, even with moderating growth.

Top holdings include internet companies Qihoo 360 Technology (QIHU) and Baidu (BIDU) — both about 8% — as well as Chinese media giant Sina (SINA) at 6.6%. More than half of PGJ is dedicated to tech stocks, with another 20% allocated in consumer discretionary. This makes a good play for China�� burgeoning tech industry, with a side dish of consumer stocks for the country�� enormous population.

Sina is an online media company that aims to serve Chinese consumers in and outside of China. The stock is now resting after seeing large declines in the last few years. Over the last four quarters, earnings and revenue numbers have improved, which has pleased investors. Relative to its peers and sector, Sina has been a poor relative performer, year-to-date. SanDisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) shares were also up, gaining 10.24 percent to $83.62 after the company reported upbeat Q1 results. Morgan Stanley raised the price target on the stock from $82.00 to $90.00.
